Later, during the discoveries Age and the emigration cycles to the USA, people from Toledo left their land in pursuit of their dreams. Nowadays several Toledos can be found worldwide, mainly in USA and in Brazil. Probably, it was the emigrants from Toledo who named those cities, still feeling in love with their city.

Toledo’s gastronomy still preserves its ancient roots, influences of hunting and pasturing are felt in it cuisine.
Being one of the richest Spanish provinces in what concerns small and big game, Toledo’s gastronomy has, obviously, game meats, as well as great cheeses, revelling the ancient shepherd tradition in the region. But the vegetables play also a very important role in the gastronomy of Toledo because of their variety and quality.
As the city of the three cultures, Toledo combines also Moorish and Christian tastes in it cuisine, conferring a special identity to gastronomy.
Some delicious and “famous” dishes are, among others, roasted lamb, suckling pig, partridge and buttered cheese. In what concerns confectionery, Toledo marzipan, of Arab influence, is famous all over Spain. La Mancha and Valdepenas are the most famous wines in the region.

Toledo was a roman municipium, the capital of the Visigoths, a fortress of the emirate of Cordoba, the capital of Spain… Every people that have come to the Iberian Peninsula left their mark in Toledo. And Toledo has managed to preserve it heterogeneity of cultures and today is a well preserved museum city.
In 1986 UNESCO declared Toledo has “World Heritage City”, this classification was justified by different criteria:
i. Toledo represents a masterpiece of creative genius
ii. Toledo exhibit an important interchange of human values – Arabs, Christians and Jews – which is represented in the architectuture, monumental arts, town-planning and landscape design
iii. Toledo is an exceptional testimony of cultural tradition
iv. Toledo is an outstanding example of architectural ensemble which illustrates significant stages in human history.
Corpus Christi

The best known festivity in Toledo is the procession of Corpus Christi. This festivity takes place on the Sunday of the ninth week after the Holy week.
The procession attracts not also the believers, but tourists from all around the world.
The gold monstrance from the 16th century is taken out of the cathedral and during the procession it is accompanied by traditional brotherhoods and knights, dressed in different colours.

The houses are also prepared for the procession, they are adorned with antique fabrics from medieval times, as well as the streets which are decorated with flowers and herbs making a natural tapestry.

Considered by many as the most spectacular Holy Week in Spain, Toledo has a fantastic ability to combine the city centre and monuments with the parade of brotherhoods. These religious associations exhibit during the parades their masterpieces of religious art.
